New Product to Make Available Cellulosic Ethanol at $2 / Gallon

Green Car Congress - February 16, 2010

Situation
New Cellic CTec2 enzymes enable biodiesel industry to produce cellulosic ethanol at below $2 / gallon
Novozymes calls product 1st commercially viable enzymes for biofuel production from agricultural waste
Initial commercial scale plant scheduled to be in operation in 2011
Cost on par w/ gasoline and conventional ethanol at current US market prices
Fermentative cellulosic ethanol production uses enzymes to break down cellulose in biomass
Product works on many different feedstock types
Including corn cobs and stalks, wheat straw, sugarcane bagasse, and woodchips
Significant Points
Novozymes CEO Steen Riisgaard announced launch at Renewable Fuels Assoc 15th Annual National Ethanol Conference
Partnered w/ leading biofuel industry companies to help accelerate process technology development, implementation
Novozymes welcomed recent support from Obama Administration in the form of RFS2 rules from the EPA
Will reignite investments in new biorefineries across the US
However, removing E10 blend wall to enable a move to higher blends such as E15
Promotion of E85 still needed to meet cellulosic ethanol targets defined by Renewable Fuel Standard
